This amazing piece of fabric from Japan is a kakishibu fabric remnant with bold and prominent hand stitching. Kakishibu is a traditional Japanese dye with a rich amber color that comes from unripe persimmon fruit that has been aged for more than 2 years. This remnant is thick cotton fabric with wear and repair. The bold stitching forms graphic patterns across the surface. This may have been a part of sakabukuro - bags that were traditionally used in sake production—giving them both visual interest and historical character. This large piece measures about 31 x 19 inches.
