Collage Camp: A recording of an online class orginally held via Facebook Live on July 12, 2021

Pack your paper & glue and join me for an afternoon at camp. We start by discussing general collage techniques and approaches This is followed by a review of a series of basic principles underlying the collage process. We will be making a quick “glue and go” collage that illustrates each of the concepts we discuss. These principles are particularly helpful to use when you find yourself creatively stuck. We will then move on to creating a handbound book with pockets which will contain your collage illustrations and notes. This will become your handbook of collage and a reference guide that you can refer to after camp is over. After the class is completed, you can choose to continue to decorate your book mixed media style – or leave as is. The concepts covered in this course can be applied to your ongoing work in collage as well as in areas such as painting, art journaling and mixed media.
The Skinny:
- You need to have a Facebook account to participate as the class takes place in a private Facebook Group that only includes paid attendees.
-The group will remain open so that you can go back and watch the video as often as you like.
-Consider the group your community, where you can ask questions and post pictures of your project.
-Attendance at the 3-hour workshop costs $40USD. Payment is accepted via PayPal only. Your PayPal receipt is considered confirmation that you registered.
-There will be no refunds once you have registered.

The Supply List:
Please note that many paper items need to be cut to size prior to the workshop so that we can spend more time on the important things.
-Book covers: Pre-cut your choice of material for your covers into two 6-inch squares. You can use any sturdy material such as book board, chip board, art board, art panel, the back of a pad or journal, a book cover from a hardback book, etc.
-Four pre-cut 6 x 6 inch squares of decorative paper that will be adhered in class as the outside and inside covers for your book. You can use handpainted or Gelli printed paper, scrapbook paper, etc.
-Twelve pre-cut 5 x 5 inch squares of watercolor paper or cardstock. My preference is heavyweight paper (115lb+) for sturdiness.
-Ten pre-cut strips of decorated paper measuring 12 x 6 inch strips. You can use five sheets of 12 x 12 inch scrapbook papers cut in half to make this easy. This paper need only be decorated on one side.
-Twelve strips of cardstock pre-cut to 1.5 x 6 inches.
-Collage material. Have a wide selection of decorative and printed paper, ephemera, clip art, words & phrases in any form, and/or any of the type of papers that you typically use for collage. You can also have pre-selected magazine images or whole magazines to pull images/text from as needed in the workshop. But please note that if you are using images/illustrations from magazines, etc., they are likely not copyright free. While they can be used for the purpose of learning in this class, they should not be used for work that you might publish or sell.
-Glue stick. Make sure this is a quality brand – such as Avery, UHU, Coccoina or Ranger.
-Scissor plus either craft knife/cutting mat or other paper trimmer.
-Ruler
-Journaling pen and/or pencil. I will be using a Signo Uniball pen and a Stabilo All pencil – both in black.
-Bone folder. Optional but very helpful.
-PVA glue and/or double-sided red line tape. Optional as they will not be part of the demo but can be used as an alternative to a glue stick in making this book.
-Throughout the class, options for additions to your book will be discussed and you can add these after the class or, on occasion, during the class as you might have these additional supplies near given that this is an online class you are taking from home.
