50 Ways to Leave Your Layer: A Compendium of Techniques

A Live Online Zoom Workshop with Seth Apter on Sunday August 14 from 12:30-7:00pm eastern

Okay. Maybe not 50. But a lot. In this technique-based workshop, you will be putting your mixed media playlist on repeat as we go through a series of layering demonstrations using paint, other wet media, and collage – all of which you can apply to any of your creative projects.

We will work through a stack of blank watercolor paper, applying both traditional and unexpected layering techniques. Some approaches will be quick and familiar, while others will be complex and innovative. Additive and subtractive paint techniques, properties of wet media, color mixing, principles of collage, mark making, texture development, tool usage, application strategies, and much more will be covered. As we move from technique to technique, we will be creating sheet after sheet of layered watercolor papers. These can be collected together to become a compendium or reference manual to guide you going forward or simply a large number of backgrounds that you can continue to work over after the class in your own personal style.

The supply list can be found at the end of this description.

The Skinny:

  • Registration opens on Sunday July 17 at 12:30pm eastern (in other words...NOW) via my online shop
  • Cost of the workshop is $110USD. Payment is accepted via PayPal only. Your PayPal receipt is considered confirmation that you registered.

  • Once you complete your purchase, you will receive an email with instructions on how to access a downloadable and printable PDF which includes the same info that you are reading now, including the supply list.
  • Registration is limited to 65 attendees. Registration will close when the class fills or 48 hours before the class begins – whichever comes first.
  • The workshop is held via Zoom. All details regarding Zoom will be sent to the email you use to register soon after you complete the registration process. You will receive a direct and private link to join the class approximately 48 hours before the class begins. Please do not share this link as only paid attendees are allowed to participate.
  • If you register for the live workshop, you will have access to the class recordings in case you either miss the live class or you simply want to see part or all of the workshop again. And again. And again…
  • Registration will reopen after the live class ends so that the class will be available to new participants as a recording.
